Service mode is a special mode that allows you to access the printer's internal settings and perform various operations. To enter service mode, you need to follow different steps depending on whether your printer has an LCD display or not.

How to use ServiceTool V2000.exe to reset your Canon printer

Once you have entered service mode on your Canon printer, you can use ServiceTool V2000.exe to reset it and perform other service mode operations. Here are some of the most common and useful operations that you can do with ServiceTool V2000.exe:

Reset the ink absorber counter

The ink absorber is a sponge-like component that absorbs the excess ink that is used during printing, cleaning, and maintenance. Over time, the ink absorber becomes full and needs to be replaced. When this happens, your printer will display an error message such as "Ink absorber is full" or "Error 5B00" and stop working.

To fix this problem, you need to reset the ink absorber counter using ServiceTool V2000.exe. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Make sure your printer is in service mode and connected to your computer.

  • Run ServiceTool V2000.exe as an administrator.

  • Click on the Clear Ink Counter tab.

  • Select either Main or Platen depending on which ink absorber you want to reset. The Main ink absorber is located at the bottom of the printer, while the Platen ink absorber is located at the back of the printer. Usually, you need to reset both of them.

  • Click on the Set button next to the option you selected. The program will send a command to your printer to reset the ink absorber counter.

  • Wait for a few seconds until the program shows a message saying "A function was finished".

  • Turn off your printer and disconnect it from the power source.

  • Turn on your printer again and check if the error message is gone.

Note: Resetting the ink absorber counter does not physically clean or replace the ink absorber. It only clears the error message and allows you to use your printer again. However, you should replace the ink absorber as soon as possible to avoid ink leakage and damage to your printer.

Print test patterns

You can use ServiceTool V2000.exe to print test patterns that can help you diagnose and troubleshoot various printing problems, such as clogged nozzles, misaligned heads, color accuracy, etc. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Make sure your printer is in service mode and connected to your computer.

  • Run ServiceTool V2000.exe as an administrator.

  • Click on the Main tab.

  • Select one of the test patterns from the Test Pattern section. You can choose from Nozzle Check Pattern, Roller Cleaning Pattern, EEPROM Information Print, Head Alignment Pattern, or Custom Settings Print.

  • Click on the Print button next to the test pattern you selected. The program will send a command to your printer to print the test pattern.

  • Wait for your printer to finish printing and check the results.

Check the ink level

You can use ServiceTool V2000.exe to check the ink level of your cartridges and see how much ink is left in them. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Make sure your printer is in service mode and connected to your computer.

  • Run ServiceTool V2000.exe as an administrator.

  • Click on the Main tab.

  • Select Ink Count from the Ink Absorber Counter section.

  • Click on the Read button next to Ink Count. The program will send a command to your printer to read the ink level of each cartridge.

  • Wait for a few seconds until the program shows a message saying "A function was finished".

  • The program will display a table with four columns: Color, Ink Count (D), Ink Count (P), and Ink Count (Total). The first column shows the color of each cartridge (BK for black, C for cyan, M for magenta, Y for yellow, and GY for gray). The second column shows the ink count in the main ink absorber (D), the third column shows the ink count in the platen ink absorber (P), and the fourth column shows the total ink count of each cartridge. The ink count is measured in milliliters (ml).

  • You can use this information to estimate how much ink is left in your cartridges and when you need to replace them.

Change the region code

You can use ServiceTool V2000.exe to change the region code of your printer. The region code determines which type of cartridges your printer can use. For example, if your printer has a region code of 1, it can only use cartridges with a code of 1, such as PG-520 and CL-521. If you want to use cartridges with a different code, such as PG-510 and CL-511, you need to change the region code of your printer.

To change the region code of your printer using ServiceTool V2000.exe, follow these steps:

  • Make sure your printer is in service mode and connected to your computer.

  • Run ServiceTool V2000.exe as an administrator.
